10 Tips On How To Make The Most Of Your Spray Tan - The Do's and Don'ts

Do you need that golden glow for your holiday or have a special occasion you're attending? I can provide a natural looking tan to suit you skin type and colour, available in multiple shades.

Achieving a natural-looking tan is easy with spray tanning! A popular option for those who desire a sun-kissed glow without harmful UV exposure. Your spray tan can last anywhere from 5-10 days but it's important to follow some dos and don'ts for spray tanning to ensure you get flawless results that last.

DO...

  1. Exfoliate the day before your spray tan: Proper exfoliation is crucial to ensure an even tan. It helps to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth canvas for the spray tan solution to adhere to. Pay extra attention to rough areas like elbows, knees, and ankles.

  2. Moisturise dry areas a day before your spray tan: Hydrated skin holds onto a tan better, so make sure to moisturise any dry areas, such as hands, feet, and ankles, before getting a spray tan. This will help to prevent the tan from clinging to dry patches, resulting in a more natural-looking tan.

  3. Hair Removal: Ensure you shave or have any waxing done no later than the day before your spray tan appointment. Shaving will generally strip away some of the spray tan, which can cause the colour to fade or become uneven. Therefore, it is always best to shave the day before your spray tan and then wait to shave again until absolutely necessary.

  4. Wear loose, dark clothing: After your spray tan, it's important to wear loose, dark clothing to avoid rubbing off the tan. Tight clothing can cause the tan to rub off unevenly or even completely, resulting in a patchy tan. Opt for loose, dark clothing to prevent this and let the tan develop properly.

  5. Wear Sunscreen: Although some fake tans contain sunscreen, their Sun Protection Factor (SPF) wears off just like it does in regular old sun cream. Even if your golden glow lasts for a week, your SPF won't so it is always recommend to apply sunscreen over your fake tan daily to protect your skin from harmful UV & UVA rays

DON'T:

  1. Don't apply any products before your spray tan: Avoid applying any oils, lotions, or makeup to your skin before your spray tan appointment. These products can create a barrier between your skin and the spray tan solution, resulting in an uneven tan.

  2. Don't shower or sweat for the recommended time: After your spray tan, I will provide instructions on when you can shower or exercise. depending on how dark you wish your tan to develop. It's important to follow these guidelines and avoid showering or sweating until the recommended time has passed. This allows the tan to fully develop and last longer.

  3. Don't forget to moisturise after your spray tan: Moisturising is key to prolonging the life of your spray tan. After your first post-tan shower, make sure to moisturise your skin regularly to keep it hydrated and prevent the tan from fading unevenly.

  4. Don't touch: It's important you try not to touch your skin during or after treatment for the best results. Touching your skin could result in a patchy result.

  5. Don't get a manicure/pedicure after your spray tan: If you are getting your nails done, it’s always best to do so before your spray tan session. This is because when most nail techs do your nails, they soak your hand and feet in soapy water, sometimes even use wet, warm wash clothes to wipe your skin. These are all big no-no’s when it comes to post-spray tan behavior!

By following these dos and don'ts for spray tanning, you can achieve a natural-looking glow with your spray tan that lasts. Take proper care and you can enjoy a flawless, sun-kissed tan all year round!
